Pelosi, Dems Promised To Stop “Profiling”

An article from two years ago that is suddenly very timely again.

From CAIR:

Pelosi, Democratic Leaders Hold Roundtable Discussion with Muslim American Leaders

Thursday, July 15, 2004

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI), Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY), and other Congressional Democrats were joined yesterday by national leaders of the Muslim American community in a roundtable discussion on issues of mutual concern to Democrats and Muslim Americans. The discussion centered on working together to defend civil rights and to restore civil liberties.

"This discussion is only the first in an ongoing dialogue between Congressional Democrats and Muslim Americans," Pelosi said. "We share a fundamental principle - the belief that diversity is the backbone of our communities. Generations of Muslims have made positive contributions in every aspect of American life. We must now work even more closely to navigate through the challenges we face as a nation."

"Since September 11th, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin, without any credible information linking individuals to criminal conduct," Pelosi continued. "Racial and religious profiling is fundamentally un-American and we must make it illegal.

"When the Patriot Act was enacted, it was intended to be accompanied by strong Congressional oversight to prevent abuses of our civil liberties. That oversight has not occurred, particularly with the mass detention campaign ordered by Attorney General Ashcroft, which to date has led to more than 5,000 foreign nationals being detained since September 11th. Moreover, individuals’ assets have been frozen on the basis of secret evidence that they have no opportunity to confront or rebut, and such processes are a fundamental denial of due process. We must correct the Patriot Act to prevent abuses of our civil liberties."

Working with Conyers, the Ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, Democrats have introduced legislation to end racial profiling, limit the reach of the Patriot Act, and make immigration safe and accessible. Leader Pelosi is a proud cosponsor of the End Racial Profiling Act, the Security and Freedom Ensured Act (SAFE), and the Safe, Orderly, and Legal Visas Enforcement Act (SOLVE).

"These measures are long overdue, and we call on the Republican leadership in Congress to bring them to a vote now," Pelosi said. "As we protect and defend the American people, we must protect and defend the Constitution and the civil rights that define our democracy. Ours is a country of great diversity and we must stand together as one America."

The following Democrats also participated in the discussion: former Democratic Whip David Bonior (D-MI), Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY), and Congressman Nick Joe Rahall (D-WV).

Funny how we never heard about this from our one party media before the elections.

Okay I hate to seem insensative or “incorrect” but does this mean that muslims will stop profiling Jewish people?

  2. SG

“that muslims will stop profiling Jewish people?”

Or infidels? Or even member of their cult who have an ever so slightly different interpretation of the apocalypse from them?

  3. Kilmeny

Toddlers and elderly white women of the world, beware. Thanks to Pelosi, you can rest easy, as you are being searched and detained at the airport, that the civil liberties of young Muslim men everywhere are safe and unsullied.

  4. retire05

Although 19 Muslim men between the ages of 20 and 45 were responsible for killing 3,000 Americans of all races and religions on 9-11-01, it is hereby decreed by the newly elected Democratic Party that from this day forward only white women over the age of 65 will be profiled and will be subject to strip searches if they act even the slightest bid angry about the profiling. This had been brought about by a group of Democrats such as John Conyers, who puts his taxpayer website in Arabic so that Muslims will know their rights to kill us with out being profiled and Charles Rangel, the World Worker’s Party’s favorite speaker who sees that the Islamofascist have many of the same ideals as the socialist/Marxist groups who want control of the western world. The group made this decision based on the numerous mall bombings that were filmed on security cameras and have been committed by white Christian women, in the name of Christ.
“You cannot assume that these people are all pro-American” says Rangel. “It is suspected that they could hide bombs in their blood pressure medicine bottles creating damage to the In-Flight magazine provided to all passengers” Rangel explains.

OK, so I am now going to take my BMW Z-3 convertible and drive around a Muslim neighborhood. When I see a group of young Muslim men standing on a corner, I will pull over and just sit there. If the police don’t see something odd about a white person driving around in a BMW in a Muslim neighborhood, checking out young Muslim men, I will then move on to a black neighborhood. I am sure the police will agree there is nothing odd about a white person in a Beemer crusing around a black neighborhood, right?

The “For Sale” sign just went up on the United States. The only problem? You have to be able to read Arabic to know what it says.

  5. NotStuckOnStupid

    God, I hate those people.

    (Nice moustache, Nancy).

  6. Miss B. Haven

Thank you, to all the Democrats in power, for being what you are, because you’re just bound to give people like Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and countless others vast materials for their next best-sellers/news columns/radio shows, thereby enriching the poeple you hate the most.

I can see that I’m going to have to take up kick-boxing again if I want to get through the next two years w/o exploding from rage. Bob-and-weave, jab-cross, boxer’s shuffle, take it to a speedbag, yeah! Sorry, I just channeled Janis Shaffel for a second there.

  7. Miss B. Haven

Almost forgot. Did someone off this blog call Pizza Hut last night? B/c I had a customer who made my night yesterday. Asked what specials we had and I told him, and he goes, “All that for twenty bucks? But it’ll be more after taxes. Uncle Sam has to get his share, especially since yesterday. Taxes are gonna go up now that the Democrats pulled their $hit. I hate em. Communist bastards.” It made me laugh(I did it quietly, b/c I didn’t want to offend) and he sounded just like one of you guys. sheehanjihad? 1sttofight? retire05? Anybody?

  8. Dubbya

    Miss B:
You work at Pizza Hut - that’s too perfect. Of all the people on here, I would have expected you to find some good in the dem’s taking congress - soon you will have the opportunity to sling hash for more than $5.25/hour…unless, of course, you’re a manager. Then you probably are already making a steep $6.30.

For the other Chicken Little’s on here - Just take a deep breath and settle down. Your skies aren’t falling in yet. Pour some wine, draw a bath, and put on a Mary Carpenter CD, preferably one with the song “We’ve Only Just Begun” on it. It seems fitting.

  9. retire05

Nope, didn’t call Pizza Hut but the sentifments are mine.
Here is what the future holds: when the dust has settled and the Dems are snug in their new offices, they will raise taxes. This is the procedure:
raise taxes; less job creation for businesses and less spendable income for individuals. The national deficit will increase as there are fewer jobs and the market will not grow because companies are not expanding. So the result will be higher taxes, higher unemployment, less federal revenue, and lower dividends from investments. On a local level: property taxes will have to be increased to offset the income from sales tax (families can’t spend what they don’t have) to pay for schools who are having to absord more and more illegal children (this is happening all over the nation). Higher property taxes will mean a slump in the housing market and fewer construction jobs. Bankrupcies will increase.
All because the Democrats failed Economics 101.
When the stock market stops growing and producing good dividends to it’s investors, when property taxes go up because sales taxes are less, when unemployment rates increase, when the national deficit increases from fewer jobs then the independents who voted these idiots in office this year, will wonder what the hell happened and we will be able to tell them.

  10. wampaku40

Nope, Dubbya, the skies are not falling, but the rug is shifting under our feet. Much more subtle. Nice to see that the first day after the elections, and the first people they meet with are the Muslims…..

“We killed the Patriot Act” proclaimed Hissyfit Harry Reid, while foaming at the mouth and soiling his girly pink panties at the same time. What a milquetoast of a man.

  12. Professor_Repulso

Remember this: “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” — Marcus Tullius Cicero
And by the way, there should be a reprieve on terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. They got their people elected, didn’t they?

  13. retire05

Professor, fasten your seat belt, I’m afraid we are in for a bumpy ride.
It is no measure of luck that we have avoided another attack. But with the far left now in power, the Clintonian method of government will be reenforced. Cut backs on our FBI, CIA and NSA so they can divert the money into entitlement programs. Political correctness will reach new heights. All to the advantage of those who are just waiting to do their evil deeds against the Big Satan.
I am afraid that it will take another attack for Americans to realize that the threat has not gone away.
Cicero had it right. As did McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover and others who realize that the greatest threat to a society is the one from within.

  14. spelunker

    PR,
Sometimes I curse the arcane bits and flotsam that lurk in the shadows of my mind, but for a change, I actually remembered what was nagging at my mind after reading the quote from Cicero; She sells sea shells by the sea shore.

Damn it, the edit function isn’t working again…She sells, sells…..I hate disjointed delivery.

  16. Professor_Repulso

spelunker - I am having trouble with the link. Your mention of flotsam did kick over a chamber pot in my mind though. I can recall a time many years ago when the land around here flooded. My dad, uncle, and I went out to assess the damage. When I saw some items floating here and there, I inquired, “Hey, unk, is that flotsam or jetsam?”. His reply; “It looks more like shitsam.”. The combination of that word and Pelosi’s hideous pan caused some long dormant synapses to fire. Sorry to have wasted your time.

  17. DEZ

    Retire.
I am starting to believe another attack won’t sway a lot of Americans.
Americans were the victims of an unprecedented attack, To many shrugged their shoulders, And said we had it coming.
They went right back to thinking the next ball game is news, And listen to the weather report, The real news that will have the biggest effect on their futures goes unnoticed.
I wish I knew what it would take to get them to see just how ugly things are gonna get.
But at least posts like yours give me hope, And I know I am not alone.

  18. wirenut

Hey Professor, I have to ask. Is flotsam by accident and jetsam by choice? Thank you if you can clear this up for me.

One last warning: “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.” Samuel Adams

Maybe it’s just me, but something I’ve noticed in the msm presentation of congress is this: when the dems were in the minority, they were referred to as “democratic leadership” this & that, now that Republicans are in the minority, I’m seeing more of that word “minority”. Coincidence? I’ll keep an eye out.

BTW here’s a nice little piece about media coverage leading up to their preferred outcome on Tuesday:

    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=17992

    I rather enjoyed that one.

  28. nodems

AmericanIPA, I recommended that Republicans buy newspapers/TV networks instead of using the money for ads during an election. That way they get the newspaper/TV and get their ads for free thereafter….just like the reporters gave free ads for Democrats every single day for months/years.

It’s much cheaper than wasing our money on ads during elections.

  29. retire05

Dez, I realize there are those who think we had 9-11 coming to us. They have little understanding of the real meaning of jihad (world domination for Islam) and have been trained to think like the good little socialist they are by their oh, so liberal professors. But for the most part, when suicide bombers start going after our schools and our children like they did in Russia, Americans are not going to be too happy. There is nothing like a round of funerals, with tiny empty caskets because no body remains to bury, to get the seeds of real anger growing.
Everyday I pray that the United States will stay safe. But I am a realist, not a Democrat with my head in the sand. I understand that the fundalmental Muslim has been on a crusade to dominate the world for Islam since the 7th century. I understand that it is easier for the imans to blame us for the pathetic conditions of Muslim nations under Shiria law than it is to accept that it is Islam itself that is the problem. Before blaming the United States for all their ills (in the days where there was no U.S.) they blamed the Jews. Of course, the imans are all fat and happy while the people they preach to are starving.
I remember how we were at fault for all the ills of Vietnam. If we would just butt out of their business, they would work it out. So the Democrats butted out and never mentioned how many died by the hands of the Kamir Rouge and the North Vietnamese communists. It was a blood bath that the Democrats allowed to happen. If we pull out of Iraq, it will be another blood bath except this time, the devils will be in control of a vast amount of oil wealth. All the better to buy those plane tickets to the United States, routed through Germany, of course.
We have become a soft nation. Take a look at New Orleans during Katrina. Thousands of people who did not have enough intelligence to take themselves out of harm’s way because Uncle Sam had taken care of them their whole lives. And when they did leave, were they trying to save their neighbors? No, they were trying to save their TV sets.
We have been indoctrinated by the “drop out and drop acid” 60’s bunch that war is bad, protecting our nation is bad, and being a super power is bad. Of course, these people are not in their early 20’s any more, they are in their 50’s and they are our congressmen and senators, our reporters and newscasters, professors and teachers and they are the new isolationists of the late 30’s. The “if we leave them alone, they will leave us alone” mindset bunch.
I don’t blame Americans for the way we are. We basically just want to be left alone and allowed to go to our jobs, raise our kids, watch Dancing With The Stars and bar-b-que on the weekends. But Americans need to realize that even though we do not really care about how the rest of the world lives, the Jolly Jihadists do care about how we live. We are judging them by our standards where we value life more than death, while they value death more than life. They are more dedicated, more driven than we are and until we realize that the terrorists operate under a different set of rules, and we adjust for them, we are in danger. We need to accept that this IS a religious war, Islam against every other religion in the world.
Our world changed on 9-11. But our memories are short and it has been five years since that horrible day. And in the days of drive-thru fast food, the internet, and immediate gratification standards, being in a war for three years is just too long and we should give up because obviously we can’t win. So those who have been taught that the goal of Islam for the last 14 centuries has been world domination are counting on our inpatience. I fear the Democrats are having the gold key to the U.S. cast as we speak. In two years we may be called not the new world, but the new France.

I’ve been assured by local democrats that whenever and wherever the next attack occurs it will be because George Bush has pissed them off.

Nope, ………I really don’t see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

  31. 1sttofight

I think killing ALL muslims, regardless of their age would be a good thing.
    But that is just me.

  32. Miss B. Haven

“Of all the people on here, I would have expected you to find some good in the dem’s taking congress - soon you will have the opportunity to sling hash for more than $5.25/hour”

I could be the only person in history to resent getting a raise I didn’t earn, but my math goes like this: My hard work + dedication to doing my job right the first time = my boss giving me more money. Whereas the dem’s math would go something like this: My slacker coworkers + zero dedictation to their jobs = more money for them. There is a reason we should leave the issue of salary to businesses, not governtment. Some idiot in Congress who’s never met a minimum-wage worker in his life decides, sight unseen, to give them all a raise. That means prices of the food will go up, the service will be worse-because hey, we’re making 7 bucks an hour, who needs a tip?-, and all-around mediocrity. An easier alternative would be not having me claim my tips. They’re a reward for doing my job well, why should the government get a cut of that? Let’s go the good old capitalist way of rewarding people for doing their jobs right, rather than give them more money “because it’s just not fair.”

  33. 1sttofight

I read somewhere that only .7% of American workers actually are paid MW.

  34. sheehanjihad

One more time….there is no such person as a muslim American. They are muslim muslims living in America….they hold zero allegiance to America…only to Allah and mohammed. That is what they are required to do to be a muslim, and if they hold any other allegiance than to Allah or muhammed, they are considered infidels. Period. End of story.

There is no problem concerning muslims who reside in this country. They will always take care of their own first, and cover the backs of even the most horrid murderers because they are required to by the laws of mohammed and Allah. To do otherwise makes them infidels. Period. End of story.

If you think that by not profiling muslims is going to help, think again. They dont care if they are profiled, or caught, or killed. There are so many of them standing in line for martyrdom that even if they are captured, they know someone else will take their place.

That, plus the fact that if captured attempting to kill Americans wholesale, there is a dirth of liberal lawyers who will jump at the chance of making double sure they are protected under the constitution of the country the terrorist swore to destroy. Profile the bastards. Scream out loud if you see one acting weird in the airport. Sure, you will be arrested for a hate crime and forced to apologize, but that beats the hell out of being vaporized in mid air by the weird acting muslim you were afraid to point out.

Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, Conyer, Durbin, Rangle….all are the fruits of the Islamists efforts to cause the Iraq situation to look bad. They need recruits, and now that they are victorious over our Congress, they will be flooded with young muslim idiots looking to get a piece of the martyr action before there isnt any westeners left to kill. Our Democratic controlled congress has just pounded the first big nail in the coffin of freedom….and half of our citizens helped them do it.

They will get what they deserve.

  36. Professor_Repulso

Profile this: For such a determined personality, Churchill could be maddeningly inconsistent. Yet on the issue of Islamic fundamentalism, his views were pungent, precise and astonishingly prescient. In The River War, his account of the reconquest of the Sudan that ended in the battle of Omdurman in 1898, Churchill anticipated many of the themes that preoccupy us today: the nature of terrorism, Islamic fanaticism and the clash of civilisations between the Islamic world and the West.
“Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith,” he wrote after going into battle himself against the Dervishes, the followers of the Mahdi, the self-proclaimed prophet of Islam who had launched a mass rebellion to drive the infidels out of Egypt. Churchill writes as an enthusiastic imperialist, comparing the “fanatical frenzy” of the Mahdi’s followers to rabid dogs. But his analysis is more nuanced than the language suggests. He understood that extremism flourished amid the “fearful fatalistic apathy” in the Muslim world — precisely the apathy that Britain’s Muslim communities must now urgently combat. Rather than condemn the Dervishes as mere lunatics (as many of his contemporaries did), he sought to understand their suicidal bravery through the “mighty stimulus of fanaticism”.
In a passage that presages his staunch resistance to Nazism 40 years later, he wrote: “I hope that if evil days should come upon our own country, and the last army which a collapsing Empire could interpose between London and the invader were dissolving in rout and ruin, that there would be some …who would not care to accustom themselves to a new order of things and tamely survive the disaster.”

Just to clarify, that was Winston, not Ward.

  37. sheehanjihad

Isnt that funny? Winston Churchill expressing the fanaticism and relentless pursuit of killing infidels…over eighty years ago! I wonder how the Democrats are going to keep telling everyone that Bush pissed them off, and if he didnt, they would be passive peaceful sheepherders now instead of psychotic bloodthirsty butchers. I guess the pope telling about a 12th century popes brush with psychotic bloodthirsty killers wasnt the same Islam Bush is being blamed for forming and making angry.

Funny part is….the Maahdi is the one Ahmedinejad is waiting for…and the reason the earth needs to be rid of all infidels before he can arise. Winston dealt with the same problem, only they killed all the bastards straight up instead of this appeasement crap. It worked too….it has taken this long for them to become openly bloodthirsty killers again. Oh, sorry, I mean psychotic bloodthirsty killers of peace. There…that’s better.

  38. Professor_Repulso

But wait! Here’s another one for you SJ: His words from February 1934 seem grimly appropriate: “I have lived through a period when one looked forward, as we do now, with anxiety and uncertainty to what would happen in the future…Suddenly something did happen: tremendous, swift, overpowering, irresistible.”

Sounds rather timely, don’t you think?

Winston Churchill was a smart assed lil prick.
    GRRRRRRRRRRR….

Sir Winston Churchill (who was also made an honorary citizen of the US, BTW) was a magnificent leader. He stepped in to fill the gap at a time when things were (arguably) even more dire than they are now. Unlike modern leaders, he wrote his own speeches and those words of his -if you have any soul at all- will bring tears to your eyes.

The battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned upon us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this island or lose the war. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say This was their finest hour.
Sir Winston Churchill: June 18, 1940

He has been described as a bulldog. That analogy of him is bang on. God, we need someone like that today.

    But can he give speeches?

We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender.

Urban legend has it that at the end of this speech, somewhat out of breath, he added “and if need be, we shall bash their heads with bottles!”

  49. DEZ

    Ok prof.
I read it, All of it.
I doubt that is how he would like to be remembered.

  50. DEZ

No the artist can’t give speeches.
He is just a lil smartass, But he is allowed to respect a man that was really good at being a smartass.
    Churchill had the gift.
It would have been great to see him and SJ in the same room.

…DW said I Just felt the need to pontificate…

As cold as it gets up north, Ever think about fornicate, I can send a few pics of
    Ann Coulter.

Oh DW, I watched a movie called Over the Hedge.
After reading your story and you passing out time and again.
I will think of the opossum grabbing his chest and crashing.

  52. DW

It would have been great to see him and SJ in the same room.
That would beget a totally new and unusual form of eloquence…

One last quote, this time from an American (as long as I’m pontificating)
All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived we dream.
T.K. Whipple: Study out the land
(quoted at the start of the novel Lonesome Dove)

  53. DEZ

    I must read that novel.
And I saw the movie Lonesome Dove at wallmart for 5 bucks.

  54. DW

The movie was fairly well done, DEZ. But do yourself a favor and fork out a few extra bucks for the novel. I think you’ll find it worth your time.
Then watch the movie. It’s one of the rare times a movie doesn’t completely butcher the novel that spawned it. Either way, enjoy.
