Terrorists Hijack Plane To Protest Pope’s Visit
From those lovers of terrorism at the BBC:

Turkish plane seized in hijacking
A Turkish airliner flying from Tirana to Istanbul has been hijacked and flown to Brindisi in southern Italy in an apparent protest against the Pope.
It sent out an SOS twice in Greek airspace, and both Greece and Italy scrambled fighter jets to escort it before it landed in Brindisi.
All of the Turkish Airlines plane’s 107 passengers are said to be unhurt.
Turkish sources say there are two hijackers and they are protesting about the Pope’s planned visit to Turkey.
According to Turkey’s private television channel NTV, the two hijackers, who oppose Pope Benedict’s visit scheduled for November, are ready to surrender.
A Greek defence official who spoke to Reuters said the plane had entered Greek air space at 1758 (1458 GMT) and four Greek fighters took off to escort it.
The Italian air force in turn sent up two F-16s to intercept the plane and reportedly forced it to land.
‘Not aggressive’
Candan Karlitekin, chairman of Turkish Airlines’ board of directors, said nobody had been hurt and the hijackers were apparently not threatening passengers.
"The passengers are not under any threat," he was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.
"They will surrender, they declared that they will surrender the moment they hijacked the plane."
Salvatore Sciacchitano, deputy director of the Italian civil aviation authority, also said the hijackers appeared to be "not aggressive" and ready to free the passengers, AFP reports.
A speech by Pope Benedict suggesting a link between Islam and violence sparked angry protests in Turkey and other mainly Muslim countries last month.
Just more of what the BBC likes to describe as "so-called terrorism."

An update from Canada Now:
I guess they showed the Pople that Islam is all about peace and tolerance.

“The passengers are not under any threat,” he was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.
I mean, other than the fact that the plane they were in was effectively under terrorist control and could have theoretically used for all sorts of nasty naughty plane-used-as-weapon stuff, I tend to agree with him.

Speaking of Turkmen, a related story from the NY Post:

The BBC was kind enough to stress (twice) that the terrorists are not aggressive. They are from the “nice” sect of terrorists.Of course, given the Moose-Limbs penchent to killing each other, I guess we can look forward to the “mean” sect of terrorists now attacking the “nice” sect of terrorists. Sparking yet another civil war that President Bush can now be blamed for.

Non-aggressors, without weapons, hijacking a Turkish airliner.
Stayed tuned for more of these.

How the hell do you hijack an airplane without being aggressive?

Seeking political asylum to avoid military duty at home. An asylum of another kind, indeed.
Nothing involving the Pope, they say.
Sigh of relief.

Ah, we would like to hijack this plane, but as we want our country to be a good candidate for the EU, we also want you to know how ready we are to surrender.
Ok, take your seats, and let us land as scheduled, get our passengers off the plane, and then we’ll take you to whomever you wish to surrender. Would you like a little something extra in your Coca-Cola until then?
Nice hijackers. Nice flight crew. Gee, maybe we can all just learn to get along like they do…..

The MSM outlets need to get the facts straight before spewing their usual diatribe. How did they get this association with the Pope initially..?? Wishful thinking perhaps..??
And how in the hell did this lone “deserter” take over the plane with no weapons?
The facts of this will be interesting, to say the least. If we are ever presented with them.

This just get more bizarre by the moment, from CNN, ( aka, liberal truth-speak );
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/.....index.html
“According to passengers, the hijacker sneaked into the cockpit when the rest of the crew was busy and told the pilot he had an accomplice on board, Italian police said. But passengers have reported seeing only one.”
OK, well, … just where the hell was the rest of the crew..?? Sneaked into the cockpit….WTF..??
Note to self, never ever ever ever fly on Turkish Airlines.

I’m with first on this one. How does one hijack a plane with no weapons and no threats? Although I supppose identifying one’s self as Muslim on a plane could be pretty threatening.
All I know is that if any Muslims tried this crap on my airplane, the first words out of my mouth would be “Let’s roll.”

It looks like the “Turkish sources” who said this was a protest of the upcoming Papal visit were slightly mistaken.
At least according to this report from the LA Times:
As with most things emanating from that part of the world, who knows what to believe?
